7th/8th Grade

Hello 7th and 8th grade students and parents!

My name is Brandon Schmid, and I am so excited to be a new member of the St. Mark family. I have taught within the Archdiocese of Seattle for the past 26 years and have experience teaching from 5th grade up through high school. I am a very hands-on, creative teacher and am very engaged with my students.  There’s nothing better than seeing the light bulb go on when we figure out a difficult math problem, construct a bridge and calculate how much weight we think it can hold, the final performance of a class play, or simply seeing students' progress throughout the year.  I have high standards and expectations in my classroom, and I believe a student’s self-respect and respect for others are just as important as their academics.

I would like you to know a little more about me, since I will be teaching your children. First, I was born and raised in Seattle, Washington and was raised and educated catholic, attending St. Alphonsus and O’Dea High School. I went on to play football at Eastern Washington University and continued playing professional indoor arena football and semi-pro football before beginning my career as an educator. I received a B.A. in Elementary Education with a B.A. in Elementary Science from Central Washington University.

I am deeply passionate about the Seattle Seahawks, Oregon Ducks, Starbucks, and different cultural foods, as I am about math, history, science, and my faith.  I love bowling, (ask me about the PBA), woodworking, bocce ball, cornhole, Connect Four, building tiny houses and playhouses, playing guitar, camping, and honing in my fishing and golfing skills.  I have two wonderful little girls, Karlie in the 5th grade, and Gwenyth in the 3rd grade.

I am so happy to be here and thank you for making me feel so welcome.  It’s going to be an amazing year!
