Anti-Harassment/Anti-Bullying Position

St. Mark Catholic Classical School upholds and enforces both Archdiocese of Seattle Catholic Schools Anti-Harassment and Anti-Bullying Policies and Washington State's Anti-Bullying Laws & Policies.  

While St. Mark Catholic School has not experienced bullying or harassment within the school, we do believe it is important for our students to understand what this behavior looks like and how to respond if they are witnesses to or are the recipient of such behavior.  Part of educating the whole student is equipping them with the resources and practice needed to appropriately respond to any and all negative social circumstances.

Washington anti-bullying laws and regulations include the following definitions of harassment, intimidation, and bullying:

When adults respond quickly and consistently to bullying behavior they send the message that it is not acceptable. Research shows this can stop bullying behavior over time. Parents, school staff, and other adults in the community can help kids prevent bullying by talking about it, building a safe school environment, and creating a community-wide bullying prevention strategy. -  https://www.stopbullying.gov/ 

“Harassment, intimidation, or bullying” means any intentionally written message or image—including those that are electronically transmitted—verbal, or physical act, including but not limited to one shown to be motivated by race, color, religion, ancestry, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, including gender expression or identity, mental or physical disability or other distinguishing characteristics, when an act:

  • Physically harms a student or damages the student’s property.
  • Has the effect of substantially interfering with a student’s education.
  • Is so severe, persistent or pervasive that it creates an intimidating or threatening educational environment.
  • Has the effect of substantially disrupting the orderly operation of the school.
