VISITORS

St. Mark Paish School welcomes parents and friends of the school to visit during Open House, Curriculum Night, School Masses, and special events and activities. DURING THE SCHOOL DAY, ALL VISITORS ARE REQUIRED TO CHECK IN AT THE OFFICE. This safety measure enables us to keep track of who is in the building. Parents are asked not to deliver things to the classroom of their students.  These items are to be left in the office and will be delivered to the students.

Parents and visitors may visit classrooms by arranging an appointed time, which is convenient for themselves and for teachers. At least two days notice to the teacher will be required of parent visitors.

VACATIONS

The school calendar is published well in advance. It is strongly suggested that parents schedule vacations at the times school is not in session. We realize that sometimes an emergency family trip must take place. If you need to take your child out of school please contact the teacher at least one week ahead of time. Any class work that needs to be made up will be done after returning to school. It will be the responsibility of the parents/students to ensure all assignments are caught up.

SUSPENSION

When a student’s behavior at school becomes so disruptive to self and/or others that effective learning and community atmosphere are impossible, the student may be temporarily removed from the school. In order to be reinstated, the student and parents must meet with the administration and other involved persons to work out a solution for the particular difficulty. The student does not receive any credit for whatever homework, tests, etc. are missed during the suspension. Suspension also means separation from all school activities.

TESTING

St. Mark Parish School is committed to administering standardized testing at selected grade levels annually. Information concerning this testing will be communicated prior to test administration.  In addition, the classroom teacher or a parent may request testing for individual students who are experiencing difficulty with school work. This testing will be done by appropriate personnel in the public school district in which a student resides.

STUDY HALL

Study Hall is open to all students in grades four through eight.  Students who come to study hall after school from 3:15pm – 4:00pm have time to finish their homework from the day and practice good study skills.  It is a quiet study period with one teacher present to help individuals with their work.

If there is a consistent pattern of a student in grades four through eight not completing assignments on time, he/she will be required to attend the after-school study hall to help them with their study habits.  Study Hall is held in the library and we ask that students not be picked up before 4:00pm because it disturbs all students who are working.
